10/13/2006 - The Climate Energy FreewattTM Warm Air Micro-CHP System Wins a 2006 POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Award
New York, New York, October 5, 2006 – POPULAR MECHANICS magazine has a long tradition of recognizing excellence in design and engineering. The Breakthrough Awards program, initiated in 2005, helps POPULAR MECHANICS publicize interesting and important new products, as well as accomplishments in the realm of scientific research. As a group the winning products promise to empower readers, improve the public’s health and safety, address environmental problems, save people money – and inject a healthy dose of fun and adventure into everyday life.
The 2006 POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Awards were presented last night in an awards ceremony at New York City’s newly completed Hearst Tower, which has been heralded as an architectural showpiece and leading example of green design. Climate Energy was awarded a prestigious 2006 POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Award for its Freewatt System, a warm air residential heating system that also generates electric power.
The Climate Energy Freewatt System, Powered by HondaTM, replaces an existing warm air central heating furnace and is installed by certified heating system professionals. The systems produce low-cost electric power by using the natural gas heating fuel twice; first to produce electric power, and then to heat the home. Homeowners will experience significantly lower electric bills while ultimately lowering the nation’s overall energy use and pollutant emissions.
Like Honda’s hybrid automobiles, Climate Energy’s Freewatt System provides real advantages while building upon proven mechanical and electrical technology. The concept is simple, electric power is produced as a by-product of the normal supply of heat to the home. The results can be dramatic. The owners of Climate Energy Freewatt Systems will enjoy enhanced thermal comfort, ultra-quiet operation, and good payback on their investment. The system is configured to conveniently replace a conventional space heating furnace in new and existing homes and operates with natural gas.
Climate Energy’s Micro-CHP Systems underwent a successful field trial program this past winter. Freewatt Systems are now available, in eastern Massachusetts, with systems scheduled to be installed beginning in January, 2007. The company is actively developing new Freewatt products, including a hydronic heating variation, and is working to expand into additional States. Climate Energy, based in Medfield, Massachusetts, is a Joint Venture company owned by ECR International (Utica, NY) and Yankee Scientific, Inc. (Medfield, MA), both privately held businesses.

5/1/2006 - ECR Releases New Super Efficient Boiler
ECR International is pleased to announce the release of the new Dunkirk Quantum 95M-200 and Utica UB 95M-200 boiler. The revolutionary new 95M is remarkably 95% efficient and is fully modulating from 80 – 200 MBH. The 95 % AFUE rating make the new boiler the only boiler on the market eligible for the Federal Tax Credit of $150. The 95M-200 features a one piece cast aluminum heat exchanger. The one piece casting eliminates section interface leaks and includes wide waterways resulting in little pressure drop. This also eliminates the need for expensive and bulky high head circulators or special near boiler piping, which will save the contractor valuable installation time. Because the high head circulators are not necessary, homeowners can anticipate saving on their electric bill as well as their gas bill. The sealed combustion design allows the boiler to be vented with inexpensive PVC pipe. A simple control scheme means the boiler can be easily maintained. The 95M-200 will reduce your customers’ fuel consumption, save them money, and ultimately pay for itself in a few short years.
